The conventional industry model for providing information about building products is via supplier or manufacturer advertising or sponsoring, which leads to a perception from many designers and specifiers that the information presented is not as independent as they would like. This is particularly significant in the area of environmental claims.

As a result, two important decisions were made very early in ecospecifier's development:

1. To establish ecospecifier with the clear purpose of providing and investing in the provision of transparent, independent, high-quality information about the life-cycle impacts of environmentally preferable products to the construction industry; and
2. To accept no advertising for product listings or placement. Rather, the ecospecifier business model would be based on a 'user-pays' and 'level of research provided' approach in conjunction with seeking support from genuinely independent financial sponsors.

There are 3 income streams for Ecospecifier Internationally and in the UAE:

1. Manufacturer Enhanced Content  Green [ECG]  Listings
2. Ecospecifier Consulting to Projects and Product  Manufacturers
3. Ecospecifier Education and Training
   

In the UAE ecospecifier offers [ECG] product assessments to manufacturers whose products meet threshold entry criteria. ecospecifier nonetheless continues at its sole discretion to list products with a specified Basic Level of content at no cost. ecospecifier website does not accept paid advertising or sponsorship from product manufacturers, and continues to ensure real and perceived editorial independence.

Manufacturer sponsorship is accepted ONLY in relation to Education and Training Events where the sponsorship reduces or eliminates the cost of attendance to the participants and where there are one or more other non-manufacturer sponsors. This sponsorship may be included relevant to the Educational events or content in specific areas of the website dedicated to Education and Training.
