3

SM-2: Design for Materials Reduction

Product may assist in a project obtaining credit point for reducing the overall amount of material used in the development of buildings. Credit point is awarded where at least 90% of the interior floor area does not include finishes, 90% of the ceiling is exposed ceiling, or the building uses dual function surfaces materials such as, Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) replacing 10% of the building envelope, and vegetated roofs or walls.

Points Available

1

SM-3: Design for Flexibility & Adaptability

Product may assist in a project obtaining this credit for enabling building interiors to be easily renovated and transformed for similar programme uses. Credit point is achieved where 95% of pipes, wiring and conduits are not installed in concrete or otherwise permanently embedded in building materials and finishes and 95% of interior, non-structural walls are demountable or movable, and if 90% of the building has regular rhythm to exposed facades, floor-to-floor heights of at least 3.6 metres, and 90% of the operable windows are evenly distributed around exposed elevations.

Points Available

1

SM-4: Design for Disassembly

Product may assist in a project obtaining this credit for facilitating the future deconstruction and reuse of buildings and their constituent structural and façade materials. Credit point is awarded if requirements determined in EPDS are met.

Points Available

1

SM-5: Modular Flooring Systems

Product may assist in a project obtaining this credit as a modular flooring system with one or more of the following characteristics: minimum 30% post-consumer recycled content, be partly or fully recyclable, rapidly renewable, or be extracted, harvested, and manufactured locally as per SM-9.  Projects where 95% of the floor areas are unfinished automatically achieve this credit.

Points Available

1

SM-6: Design for Durability

Product may assist in a project obtaining this credit by minimising building impacts from condensation, water ingress, improper drainage and physically protecting vulnerable areas of the building envelope and surroundings. Credit point is awarded where a Building Durability Plan has been implemented to optimise the integrity of the building's internal and external envelope and can achieve the projected life with low maintenance.

Points Available

1

SM-7: Building Re-use

Product is likely to encourage the re-use of existing major structure and existing facades to reduce new material consumption. Credit points are achieved by the percentage re-use of the building structural system, by surface area.

Points Available

2

SM-7 Note 1: Building Re-use

Product is likely to encourage the re-use of existing major structure and existing facades to reduce new material consumption. Credit points are achieved by the percentage re-use of the building structural system, by surface area.

This product may assist a project in obtaining this credit, as product may contribute in re-use a structure at the end of its life, in accordance with the prescribed requirements.

Points Available

1

SM-8: Reused Materials

Product may assist in a project obtaining this credit for the selection of previously used or salvaged materials. Credit point is awarded where reused or salvaged materials constitute at least 3% of the total materials cost of the project.

Points Available

1

SM-9: Regional Materials

Product may assist in a project obtaining this credit provided that the transport distance for materials representing a proportion of the construction cost is not greater than 500 km by road or rail from their origin to the project site, where sea miles are excluded from the calculation.

1 credit point = 10% of total building materials costs

2 credit points = 20% of total building materials costs

Any materials sent by airfreight at any point during their transport do not qualify for this credit.

Points Available

2

SM-10: Recycled Materials: Steel

Product may assist in a project obtaining this credit as structural steel with a minimum of 25% post-consumer recycled content or reused for steel-framed buildings, or for concrete-framed buildings, as reinforcing or stressing steel with a minimum of 90% post-consumer recycled content.

Points Available

1

SM-10: Recycled Materials: Cement Replacement

Product may assist in a project obtaining credit points through the use of supplementary cementing materials or aggregates or admixtures, reducing the overall amount of Portland cement used and therefore the associated embodied greenhouse gas emissions as per the provided table SM10.1.  Number of points determined is based on the strength grade and embodied GHG of the mix.

Points Available

2

SM-10: Recycled Materials: Recycled Aggregates

Product may assist in a project obtaining credit points as a recycled or industrial waste aggregate.

Points Available

2

SM-10: Recycled Materials: Other Materials

Product may assist in a project obtaining credit points through the use of recycled materials with a minimum of 30% post-consumer recycled content, a minimum of 80% post industrial recycled content, or 50% agricultural waste by-product.

Points Available

1

SM-11: Rapidly Renewable Materials

Product may assist in a project obtaining this credit for increasing the use of fast growing materials instead of slow growing materials or finite resources. Credit point is awarded where rapidly renewable materials are a significant constituent of the walls, ceilings, joinery, or finishes determined in EPDS.

Points Available

1

SM-12: Reused or Certified Timber

Product may assist in a project obtaining this credit for rewarding sustainable timber harvesting practices that support biodiversity and minimise ecological impacts.  Timber and composite wood products, including temporary construction timber is reused or Chain of Custody Certified under any one or a combination of the following schemes: FSC, PEFC, CSA, SFI, MTCS; and is legally sourced and not on the CITES list of endangered species.  Number on credit points achieved is determined by the percentage by cost of timber complying.

Points Available

2

SM-13: Improved Construction Waste Management

Product may assist in a project obtaining this credit by increasing resource recovery from waste streams generated from building construction. Credit point is achieved if the Construction and Demolition Waste Management Plan is monitored monthly and the minimum final recycling/salvage rate is achieved. 1 credit point is awarded if 50%, 2 credit points if 70% of construction and demolition debris are recycled or salvaged.

Points Available

2

SM-25: Organic Waste Management

Product may assist in a project obtaining this credit by recovering and reusing of vegetated waste from building operations within the landscaped, plantscaped and green roof areas. Credit point is awarded if an onsite location for all project occupants dedicated to the collection is provided and/or green waste generated onsite is composted.
